Itinerary
Begin your Rovos Rail tour with your departure at Capital Park. The train journey through the stunning landscape of South Africa allows the visitors to explore the hidden gems of the place. Your journey from Pretoria to Cape Town takes the guests across the South African scenery, all from the grasslands to the Winelands. Board the train and enjoy a sumptuous dinner and overnight stay at the train.
Next day, your train will reach Kimberly Station and you will be collected from there. Begin your tour to the town of Big Hole and Diamond Mine Museum. Considered as one of the best open air museums in the world, this museum is a must visit place in the Northern Cape. The museum is situated right next to the Big Hole and tells an intriguing tale of this part of the country. After your city tour, get back to your train that will depart from Kimberly. Proceed for your overnight journey that will run via De Aar and Beaufort West to Matjiesfontein.
Breakfast is served in the dining cars until 10:00. There is a chance for guests to disembark the train at Whitehill Siding and walk the five kilometres into Matjiesfontein. A member of staff will accompany the group. Comfortable walking shoes are essential. Disembark at Matjiesfontein for an opportunity to stroll through the historic village. Of special interest is the museum on the platform and a collection of historic cars and railway carriages to the right of the Lord Milner Hotel. Depart Matjiesfontein. The train arrives at the first of four tunnels on the pass. The first tunnel is 13.5 kilometres long so guests are to be careful when walking through the train and may wish to turn on necessary lights. Lunch is served in the dining cars. The train climbs ±750m down the escarpment through the Hex River Valley. Tea is served in the lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train. The train arrives at journey’s end: Platform 24 at Cape Town Station
